Redesigning with a Branded Organization: Rise South City
MEDIA
PROMPT
This work was part of the Partners for Climate Justice in the Bay Fellowship, where I worked with Rise South City, a non-profit based in South San Francisco. As students from a wide range of disciplines were accepted to this fellowship, our instructions were open-ended and simply to help out the organization however we could.
PROCESS
Being a Design major, I offered my graphic design skills, in addition to UX and website building. In my time there, I worked within existing brand guidelines to create informational documents, brochures, and flyers. I edited pre-existing photos and used them on the documents and website. With the help of my supervisor and co-worker, we translated the documents to Spanish while maintaining a clean aesthetic and layout. I did a lot of work to the website by adding an eye-catching banner to advertise an upcoming local event, reorganized some pages, and created entirely new pages like the Resources page. I created many of the resources seen on the page, with the help of my coworker, another PCJ Fellow.
PRODUCT
I finished up my Fellowship with a reflection and a final summary video that was presented to the Haas Center to use in the future. I included all of my graphic design work and work I did on the website.
PITFALLS
I struggled with the work style, and preferred a more consistent check-in style of work. I had to adapt to a team that was frequently away and I had to quickly learn when to check in on my own.
